About Double Click Newsletter

Immigration policy is no longer a niche political debate—it’s a force shaping technology, public safety, and daily life across the United States. As coverage grows louder and more fragmented, Double Click Newsletter offers something different: grounded context to help you focus on what actually matters.

Right now, feeds and screens are clogged with hot takes—pundits debating immigration in the abstract while prescribing solutions from a distance. The result is coverage that’s loud, reactive, and often disconnected from the realities shaping people’s lives.

Delivered once (or twice!) a week, Double Click draws on my expertise and lived experience with the immigration system to offer useful context—so you can read a little, learn a lot, and gain a better understanding of how immigration policy intersects with everyday life.

So, who is writing this thing?

Hi, my name is Juan Escalante! I kicked off my career in digital organizing almost 15 years ago while navigating the United States immigration system—first as an undocumented immigrant, later as a DACA recipient, and today as a recently naturalized U.S. citizen.

From helping organize civil disobedience actions calling on the Obama White House to protect Dreamers to passing legislation in Florida, New York, and Colorado, I was often the person behind a computer screen—making sure the tweets were posted, the websites were working, and the emails to donors and supporters went out.

You may have seen me on television, at rallies, or followed my now-zombie Twitter account (@JuanSaaa) at one point or another—I still get asked if I’m “Juan Escalante from Twitter.”

All of that has given me a front-row seat to our country’s deeply broken immigration system. Along the way, I’ve used social media and digital tools to help communities organize, fundraise, and launch campaigns—both online and offline.

I launched Double Click to share relevant information during uncertain times—and to have a little fun along the way. I hope my insights and my passion for breaking down complex topics into digestible pieces bring you some clarity and maybe even a bit of comfort.

Oh, and one more thing: the internet can be a weird place. In that spirit, you can expect photos of my dog, Sophie, alongside links to content I find interesting, funny, or downright cringe, buried within Double Click’s news recaps and political analysis.
